I got my TC25D from Ritchie Tractor this weekend. Yeow! Am I happy. It really is a very nice machine. Just some comments and impressions for those of you looking and trying to decide.First, the deal with Ritchie was very good. My local dealer wouldn't give me a deal much less than retail so I looked around. My local dealer was stunned at the Ritchie price (22,166 with loader, backhoe, supersteer). Keith Rose at Ritchie was very patient with me as we worked out transportation and cash transfer. We did have one problem. Neither of us trusted the other. Ritchie wanted cash, and I wasn't about to hand cash to someone I never delt with before over such a long distance (I'm in Northern California, Ritchie is in Knoxville, TN). But we managed to work it out with a local bank. The attention to detail on the tractor is wonderful. There are lots of little details that make it a really fine machine. That's one of the things that turned me away from Deere. There were details on the 4200/4300 that looked a bit cheap and that made me think they may have cut corners where it was important. But these are just impressions. What really counts is how often you have to visit the service department. That hopefully won't be for a long time. The motor is surprisingly quiet. But in the high range (it has 3 speed hydrostatic) on the road, the hydrostatic was really loud. In low and mid range, its ok. I've used a stick and I've now used the hydrostatic. If you're not doing crop work, you're crazy not to buy a hydrostatic. It is WAY worth the money! For my property, (lots of trees) the supersteer is very nice. But it will dig into the turf contrary to what they say. But what do you expect, the front wheels are almost at 90 degrees to the rear!I pulled out 5 stumps with the backhoe this weekend and it worked great. No matter what brand you choose, don't go cheap on the options. You'll always regret it later.

Ritchie recommended Alternative Trans Service. They are a trucking broker that claims to specialize in ag equipment. It was shipped on a flatbed tractor-trailer. Getting it off the truck was a problem because it was on the front half of the trailer. So I had to rent a 20' flatbed ($80) and back it up to the front of the flatbed and drive it off. Then backup the 20' to a local dock and drive home.I don't think Ritchie will recommend them in the future. I certainly don't. Their price quoting is the reason I don't recommend them. I asked for a quote from them, informing them of what model and how it was equipped, where it was comming from, where it was going to. They quoted me $995. A week or so later, when the truck picked up the tractor, ATS called and said it was going to cost $1295!. Reason: the length of the tractor was longer than expected. Well let's see. You're in the ag equipment hauling business and suddenly can't quote jobs accurately. Of course I don't belive them for a minute. To me this is appears to be a bait and switch operation. To up the charge while the truck is at the pickup point is really a cheap shot. Then it took 10 days to get it here. The driver took some time off, with good reason (he was on the road 5 weeks) and picked up and extra load which cost a day. There were 3 other deliveries (no other ag equipment) on the truck. The lesson I learned: I was smart enough to get everything in writing with Ritchie and it went really well on that part of it. But I was ignorant with the trucking and did it all verbally. I should have had the price quoted via fax and gotten the delivery date in writing. ....

I got a quote from Ritchie last year on a NH 1925. His price, even with shipping was about $1100 less than what I ended up paying from a local dealer. Why did I end up buying from the local dealer? Stuart Ritchie was very good to work with on the phone, and his operation checked out A-1 with the BBB in their town, but could not answer the question, to my satisfaction regarding warranty work. He could not assure me that I would not have a problem getting warranty service from a local NH Dealer. My tractor was recalled two months ago for loose steering wheels. Apparently the wheel lock nut has to have a lock compound applied on the bolt, and then the nut has to be torqued to a specific reading. Letter from NH said that selling dealer had to do the work free, but that there may be a mileage charge. Selling dealer scheduled the repair at my convenience, with no charge whatsoever (dealer is approx 40 miles away). Anyway, not a problem, but what would you do if you had the problems that Farminlady had with her Boomer a few months back? Something to think about when making (at least for me) a MAJOR purchase. ....

Good points Brent. No doubt about it, its important to have a good relationship with your dealer. But I saved over $5000. It was hard to pass up. I simply would not have bought the tractor for what the local dealer was asking.NH warrants the tractor, not the dealer. One would think that NH would work something out on a serious warranty problem to save on bad publicity. But, ya' takes your chances and you deal with 'em. ....

I recently bought a 1720 New Holland from my local dealer. I checked with Ritchie Tractor for their price. The local dealer was only $50 over what Ritchie tractor wanted so I felt that I was getting a real good deal. If however the price would have been $750 or more I would have made a trip to Ritchie tractor. My $.02 worth.... Glenn ....

I got the NH backhoe because it attaches to the frame nice and solid and has a quick disconnect setup. I haven't detached it or the loader yet, so I have yet to experience how easy/hard it is. But it just takes removal of two pins to get it off. Don't have the paperwork here, but I think I paid $5400 for it. ....
